Up until a couple of years ago, I never wore mascara. It's always a pain to take off, it usually flakes and leaves dark circles under my eyes, and my lashes are so short and stubby that they're barely noticeable no matter what I do to them. However, these days, you won't catch me heading to an important event without swiping on a few layers of my new favorite eye product. Yes — it's true, I'm a mascara covert — but that doesn't mean I'm not picky about my formulas.

If I could have everything I want, I'd ask for a product that lengthens and makes my lashes look like falsies, curls, doesn't clump, is easy to get off at the end of the night, and doesn't leave any fallout under my eyes. But let's be real — this is real life, not a fairytale, so my beloved favorites typically check three or more of those categories. My latest obsession? The brand new Benefit Bounce Mascara ($30).

About the Benefit Badgal Bounce Mascara

  • This mascara is meant to give eyelashes volume and fullness.
  • It's smudge-proof, transfer-proof, clump-proof, and flake-proof.
  • The key ingredients include linden bud extract for lash fullness, rice wax to help separate lashes, and castor seed oil and provitamin B5 to condition lashes.
  • It has a dual-sided brush: one side has fiber bristles to coat evenly and the other has plastic comb bristles to separate.

What I Like About the Benefit Badgal Bounce Mascara

I'm single, so as of late, I've been spending a lot of time going on dates. And let me tell you, there is nothing worse than sitting in front of a person for the very first time, yapping your head off, thinking you look as cute as a button, only to walk into the bathroom at some point in the night to notice that you have black sh*t underneath your eyes from your mascara. Nothing makes me trash a tube faster than seeing fallout around my eyes.

This leads me to my first reason for loving this formula: zero fallout. Even through tears of laughter on a recent first date (yes, there will be a second!), this mascara managed to stay in place for an entire night.

An honorable mention goes to the dual-sided brush, which makes coating and then separating my lashes a breeze. I also saw a lot of length with this formula, as well.

How to Use the Benefit Badgal Bounce Mascara

Start out by using the fiber bristles to coat your lashes evenly with product. From there, switch over to the plastic comb to separate lashes and define your look. You can apply as many coats as you like.

After curling my lashes, I like to start at the base of my lashes and move my way upward in a zig-zag motion. I also like to focus the majority of the product on the outer corners of my eyes to give me a faux cat-eye look. I typically opt for two coats total. Otherwise, I find that my lashes get too heavy, and it's hard for them to hold a curl.

What to Consider Before Trying the Benefit Badgal Bounce Mascara

This mascara has great staying power, but that makes it a little difficult to get off at the end of the night. I typically use a cleansing balm and then follow with a gentle face wash, and when I hopped out of the shower I still had some product clinging to my eyes and around my face. I'd recommend using an eye-makeup remover to start, and then going in with your normal cleansing routine.
